The Westin St. Francis San Francisco Debuts Haunted Hotel Suite

San Francisco has no shortage of hotels with a spooky skeleton in the closet, but this Halloween, the Westin St. Francis is having a little more fun with its 122-year history.

The landmark 1,187-room Union Square hotel is rolling out two fall-in-San Francisco experiences just in time for Halloween: a Haunted Suite you can actually sleep in through November 1, and a one-night-only (on October 23rd) murder mystery dinner.

Spend the Night in the Haunted Suite

Available through November 1, the Haunted Suite overlooks Union Square but has been transformed into a mysterious manor with eerie details, ghostly surprises, and haunted décor.

The suite sleeps up to four people and includes a king bed, a pullout couch, and a $50 daily food and beverage credit per room. Rates start at $269 per night.

Solve a Murder Over Masquerade Meal

On October 23rd, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., the hotel’s St. Francis Suite becomes the scene of “Midnight at the Masquerade,” an interactive murder mystery dinner for up to 80 guests.

Trade clues, gather information, and determine which masked partygoer is hiding a deadly secret, all while enjoying a three-course dinner.

The menu includes a gem lettuce salad with delicata squash and drunken cranberries, Beef Wellington with fresh truffles, and a seven-layer New Orleans Doberge cake.

Masquerade attire is encouraged and tickets are $161.90 per person and include dinner and two drinks. Buy Tickets Here

A full cash bar will also be available.

Or enjoy more Haunted San Francisco fun just outside the front doors…if you dare!

A Hotel With Haunted History

The Westin St. Francis opened on Union Square in 1904 and remains one of San Francisco’s best-known historic hotels. The 32-story tower has hosted numerous U.S. presidents, royalty, world leaders, actors, and historical figures.

And the hotel’s haunted theme isn’t entirely invented for Halloween.

The St. Francis has long had a reputation for paranormal activity, particularly around rooms 1219–1221. The suite was the setting for Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle’s infamous 1921 party, after which actress Virginia Rappe became ill and later died.

Nearly three decades later, entertainer Al Jolson died of a heart attack in the same suite while playing cards. Since then, tales of ghostly sightings and unexplained happenings on the 12th floor have become part of the hotel’s lore.

But if ghosts aren’t your thing, there are decidedly less spooky reasons to stop by. The hotel is home to Bourbon Steak by Michael Mina, and Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry’s bourbon-focused bar, The Eighth Rule.
