France Names 33 Hotels to Its Highest “Palace” Category
In France, five stars aren’t the highest honor a hotel can receive.
This week, the French government awarded or renewed its coveted “Palace” distinction for 33 hotels, a designation reserved for properties that go beyond traditional five-star luxury in areas such as service, design, heritage, and overall guest experience.
Six hotels earned Palace status for the first time, including Hôtel Martinez in Cannes on the French Riviera.
The updated list is a reminder that some of France’s most celebrated hotels are found along the Côte d’Azur.
Other Palace properties on the French Riviera include Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes, La Reserve in Ramatuelle, and Cheval Blanc in Saint-Tropez.
And let’s not forget Airelles Château de la Messardière, also in Saint-Tropez. It’s the setting for Season 4 of the hit HBO series The White Lotus.
