Hotel Review: The Inn Above Tide
The Inn Above Tide is a serene, adults-only waterfront boutique hotel in Sausalito, a waterside town on the San Francisco Bay known for its intimate feel, luxurious amenities, and sweeping views of the city skyline.

💰 Price: Rates start above $600 per night and exceed $1,600 per night for an ultra-posh suite. Yowza! It’s definitely splurge and special occasion territory. However, if amazing views in a unique setting are what you’re after, this waterfront gem is a good choice.
📚 Why book: Downtown San Francisco hotels are lovely, but there isn’t much tranquility outside the front door.
Sausalito and the Inn Above Tide are an easy 25-minute ferry ride across the bay from the San Francisco Ferry Building, making it possible to enjoy the best of both worlds. The hotel is walking distance from the ferry landing (like one minute), so you can easily reach San Francisco and spend the day exploring the amazing things to do in the city then return to this oasis each night.
🛏 Each of the hotel’s 33 rooms and suites features a private, furnished deck and uninterrupted views of the San Francisco Bay, city skyline, Alcatraz, and Angel Island.
It’s hard to tear yourself away from the views at the Inn Above Tide, but the hotel’s location means you don’t need a car to visit restaurants, shops, and galleries, then return to cozy up in your bathrobe with a nightcap on your deck.
🥘 Dining: Although there isn’t a restaurant on site, The Inn Above Tide offers coffee and tea all day, an evening wine and cheese reception, and complimentary breakfast each morning, which you can have brought to your room.
Sausalito has numerous bars and restaurants within walking distance. Cultivar is just outside the front door.
🗺️ Neighborhood: Sausalito’s art galleries, wine bars, cafés, waterfront restaurants, shops, and views of San Francisco are all just steps from the front door, as is the ferry landing, so you can easily get to all the amazing things to do in San Francisco.
👀 Nearby attractions: Sausalito makes a good home base explore NorCal. SeaTrek offers Kayak and SUP tours and rentals.
Heath Ceramics (and factory tour) is located in Sausalito.
A visit to stunning Muir Woods (25 minutes away) is a must, and an evening sunset cruise on a sailboat will round out a visit.
Bask in a Sauna and take a dip in the bay at Fjord (if you can get a reservation).
The hotel also offers several packages tied to local adventures, including a fun seaplane tour!

❤️ My heartthrob: The complimentary evening wine and cheese, as well as the daily breakfast, can be delivered to your room. In-room binoculars are provided so you can spy on frolicking sea lions.
💔 My heartbreak: The price. It’s steep for a room and out of reach for many travelers. But if a splurge is what you’re after, or you’re looking to celebrate a special occasion, this one checks a lot of boxes.
