First Look: Bruma San Francisco—The New Cocktail Bar at The Ritz-Carlton
I love a hotel bar. Give me moody lighting, a sumptuous room, classic cocktails, and a reason to dress up on a Monday, and I’m happy. Throw in good food, a fireplace, and nary a television in sight, and I’m declaring it a regular stop.
That’s pretty much how I felt about Bruma, the new cocktail lounge in the lobby of The Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco, where I attended the opening celebration in October 2026.
Named for the Spanish word for mist, Bruma takes inspiration from San Francisco’s famous fog (hello, Karl!) and the grand residential parlors of Nob Hill.
Gorgeous, Glamorous & Very San Francisco
Designed by the hospitality interiors firm Fettle, Bruma occupies a space within the landmark hotel’s 1909 lobby on San Francisco’s posh Nob Hill.
The look is rich and inviting, with deep navy, espresso brown, aged brass, antique mirrors, and soft lighting that makes everyone of a certain age look just a little better. Thanks for that!
The soaring ceilings made room for one of my favorite details — the enormous mural wrapping around the room, filled with San Francisco references, including cable cars and the famous wild parrots of Telegraph Hill.
Red sconces adorn the walls and are nod to the red lanterns in Chinatown
The room’s original fireplace and mirrored back bar add to the feeling you’ve wandered into someone’s fabulous living room, or salon (pronounced with a French accent).
No generic hotel lobby bar vibes here.
It’s a gorgeous backdrop for photos, so dress up, strike a pose, and snap a selfie or two. Nobody’s judging.
And did I mention there are no TVs? In a city where even upscale bars sometimes feel compelled to broadcast a Giants or 49ers game, I appreciate a place where your conversation becomes the main event.
Cocktails With a San Francisco Twist
The cocktail menu is divided into four categories inspired by the city’s geography and personality: World’s Edge, Open Water, Golden City, and High Ground.
In practical terms, that means everything from bright, citrus-forward drinks to fruit-driven cocktails and serious, spirit-forward classics. They even have a Nob Hill Pisco Punch, a reimagined nod to the cocktail’s San Francisco origins.
For those who like a little theater with their drinks, Bruma offers tableside Martini service with glasses chilled with liquid nitrogen.
You’ll also find rare spirits, wines, champagne, and a selection of mocktails.
And There’s Real Food, Too
Another thing I appreciate about Bruma is that the food isn’t an afterthought.
Let’s get real— If I’m downing a martini cooled by liquid nitrogen, I’m going to need more than wasabi balls or olives to get me through the night.
Bruma rolled out delicious Dungeness crab rolls on buttery brioche, Wagyu smash burger sliders, fried chicken, and plenty of other tasty morsels. There’s enough variety of real food here to handle the substantial drinks.
Peanuts? No thanks. Give me the slider all day, any day, Bruma.

A Bar for Any Occasion
I can easily imagine settling into a bar seat with a cocktail just to enjoy the atmosphere. It’s equally suited to a catch-up with a BFF, a date night, or a group of friends gathering for an elegant pre-dinner drink.
The 80-seat lounge is polished but approachable, and that’s not always an easy balance to strike in a luxury hotel.
Bruma has plans for regular entertainment, including Golden Hour Aperitivo on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4–6 p.m., live jazz on Friday evenings, and Latin fusion music on Saturdays from 7–10 p.m.
A good excuse to check back in to this Nob Hill santuary.
My Take: A Welcome Addition to Nob Hill
San Francisco has no shortage of cocktail bars, but I think Bruma fills a nice niche.
It’s glamorous and sophisticated without forgetting that people come to bars to have a good time.
The Nob Hill location also makes it a terrific stop before dinner in Chinatown, North Beach, downtown, or Jackson Square. In fact, I can easily see adding it to my regular rotation when I’m heading out for an evening in the city, or showing of beautiful San Francisco to out of town visitors.
See you there? Cheers!
