Golden Gate Bridge Fireworks Return for Just the Third Time in History This July 4

San Francisco has hosted plenty of memorable celebrations over the years, but July 4th, 2026, promises something truly rare.

To commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence, fireworks will be launched from the Golden Gate Bridge, which has only happened two other times during the landmark’s 90-year history.

The last time fireworks were launched from the bridge was in 2012 for the icon’s 75th anniversary. Prior to that, it was for the bridge’s 50th anniversary celebration, making this year a San Francisco July 4th to remember.

According to event organizers, the show begins at 9:30 p.m., and visitors should expect large crowds throughout the city, particularly in waterfront locations such as Crissy Field, the Presidio, Marina Green, and Fisherman’s Wharf.

Public transportation, walking, or bike shares such as Bay Wheels (unlock them directly through the official Lyft or Bay Wheels app) are highly recommended, as many parking lots around Crissy Field, Marina Green, and the Golden Gate Bridge will be closed.

The bridge itself will also be closed to cars and pedestrians.

For visitors planning a trip to San Francisco over the July 4th holiday weekend, the celebration offers a chance to experience one of the city’s most iconic landmarks in a way few generations have witnessed.

Whether seen from the shoreline, a hilltop overlook, the Fairmont Hotel on Nob Hill, or across the bay in Tiburon, fireworks blooming around the Golden Gate Bridge promise to create one of the most memorable Independence Day spectacles in recent city history.
