Free Alcatraz Community Day Comes to San Francisco September 26
Here’s something you don’t hear often in San Francisco: Alcatraz, family fun, and free in the same sentence.
Alcatraz City Cruises is celebrating 20 years of partnership with the National Park Service with a free Alcatraz Community Day event on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Pier 33 Alcatraz Landing.

The family-friendly celebration runs from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and includes face painting, a live DJ, a roaming photo booth, and the chance to decorate your own 20th-anniversary tote bag.
Local organizations, including the California Academy of Sciences, Exploratorium, San Francisco Zoo & Gardens, Aquarium of the Bay, San Francisco Giants, National Park Service, and Market Street Railway, will also be on hand with activities.
Pick up a passport card and collect stamps from all 11 community booths. Complete the challenge, and you can enter to win prizes, including Alcatraz Night Tour tickets and National Park passes.

And There’s a Free Bay Cruise
The biggest perk comes after Community Day ends.
Alcatraz City Cruises is offering an optional complimentary 90-minute Bay Discovery Cruise, departing Pier 33 at 3:10 p.m.
Space on the cruise will be limited, and advance reservations are required, with a maximum of two guests per booking.
Reservations will begin soon, so check the website often.
