Alcatraz Island to Close for Three Weeks in October & November 2026
Planning to visit Alcatraz this fall? Check your dates. San Francisco’s famous former prison will temporarily close October 26 through November 18, 2026, while crews make repairs to the island’s ferry dock.
According to the National Park Service, workers will replace two pilings that support the dock, following earlier inspections and temporary repairs. The work is expected to extend the dock’s useful life by 20 to 30 years.
What if you already have tickets? Alcatraz City Cruises will contact affected visitors with refund options. Guests can also reschedule their tours or choose a San Francisco Bay Discovery Cruise on select dates.
The island is expected to reopen on November 19, 2026, although weather or construction delays could affect the schedule.
