Hi! I’m Kimberley.
I’m a travel journalist with 20+ years of experience writing travel and lifestyle articles for publications including National Geographic Traveler, AFAR, Travel + Leisure, The Saturday Evening Post, Virtuoso: The Magazine, Marriott Bonvoy Traveler, Ciao Bambino, AARP, and many print and online publications. I am also the author of a few guidebooks to San Francisco, and a travel-themed children’s picture book called Pisa Loves Bella, which shares messages of wanderlust and kindness.
Over the years, I’ve learned that travel is about far more than the number of miles logged or pins dropped on a map. The journeys that linger longest and are remembered most are the ones that ask us to slow down, look a little more closely, and open both our minds and our hearts.
They unfold in quiet conversations, shared meals, unexpected detours, and moments of stillness that connect us not only to a place and its people but also to ourselves. Discovering those moments, and sharing them with curious, kindred spirits, is what continues to inspire me to pack my bags and hit the road.
One Trip Wonder is where I’ll drop honest travel tips, guides, hotel reviews, and advice based on my experiences. We all travel differently, but I’ll create itineraries you can pin and use, your way.
Occasionally, I’ll share a Q&A with cool folks I meet along the way, too, and yes, a few lists too, all in hopes of encouraging you to experience the wonder of travel in a way that suits your roaming style—whether your next adventure takes you across the ocean or just down the road.
Thanks for following along. Safe travels.

What I Do
Write Beyond the Ordinary
Value
20+ years of experience working with editors, DMOs, print, online, and custom publications
Mission
To inspire curiosity, respect, and appreciation for the planet and people
Commitment
To deliver words that embody a journalist’s skillset and a kindness-first ethos
I believe travel should do more than just check a box. It should also spark imagination, inspire curiosity, and help us discover something new in each destination we visit, and within ourselves.
My stories are rooted in genuine and respectful interest. I’m not afraid to ask questions, nor am I opposed to some good old-fashioned eavesdropping. I have been known to follow a side conversation down a not-so-beaten path to taste what’s growing in the country kitchen and dive into local culture. I also don’t subscribe to the trope that “touristy” is a bad word and that travel “lists” are soulless. Cliché hotspots have become so for a reason, and lists can be helpful for first-timers. It’s all about context.
From these perspectives, I generate content that feels human, helpful, textured, and true. Check out my published articles and books at www.KimberleyLovato.com
Q & A
01
Do you have a favorite place?
France and California share my heart—I spend months each year in one and grew up in the other. But the truth is, I’m always ready to be swept away by somewhere new.

02
What has travel taught you?
It’s reinforced that our similarities far outweigh our differences. At their core, people everywhere want safety, opportunity, and dignity for themselves and those they love.
03
What’s your best piece of packing advice?
Never leave home without an open mind, patience, and kindness. They travel well, weigh nothing, and are always in style. And throw in a little black dress, just in case.
