Hotel Review: The Inn Above Tide

Corner bathtub with amazing view at the hotel Inn Above The Tide in Sausalito

🌟 The Inn Above Tide, 30 El Portal, Sausalito, California🌟

🛏️ Number of rooms & suites: 33

💰 Price: hotel rooms in San Francisco are pricey, and the rooms at The Inn Above Tide start above $600 per night and exceeds $1,600 per night for an ultra-posh suite. Yowza! It’s definitely entering splurge territory, however, if views in a unique setting are what you’re after, this gem on the water is a good choice.

📚 Why book: Downtown San Francisco hotels are lovely, but there isn’t much tranquility outside the front door. For that, I suggest The Inn Above Tide, an easy 25-minute boat ride across the bay. It feels worlds away yet is close enough to the city to spend the day exploring.

Each of the 33 rooms and suites features a private, furnished deck and uninterrupted water views of the San Francisco Bay, city skyline, Alcatraz, and Angel Island. It’s hard to tear yourself away from the exquisite views, but the hotel’s central location means you don’t need a car and can walk to dinner, shops, and galleries, then return to cozy up in your bathrobe and watch San Francisco’s skyline twinkle across the water.

🧀 Dining: Although there isn’t a restaurant on site, The Inn Above Tide offers coffee and tea all day, an evening wine and cheese reception, and complimentary breakfast each morning, which you can have brought to your room if you prefer to dine in your robe.

Sausalito is on the doorstep, and has numerous bars and restaurants within walking distance.

🗺️ Neighborhood: Sausalito’s art galleries, wine bars, cafés, waterfront restaurants, shops, and views of San Francisco are all just steps from the front door, as is the ferry landing, so you can easily get to all the amazing things to do in San Francisco.

👀 Nearby attractions: Ice House Museum with free Saturday walking tours, Sausalito Books by the Bay, Kayak and SUP tours and rentals, Bay Area Discovery Children’s Museum, Sausalito Center for the Arts, Heath Ceramics (and factory tour), Bay Model Visitor Center, No Name Bar (with nightly live music), Muir Woods (25 minutes).

💫 Highlights: Views, location, intimate setting, free WiFi, complimentary bikes, Bvlgari bath amenities, car-free living. Sausalito is also a highlight, and an easy overnight or day trip. Read about other day trips from San Francisco.

❤️ My heartthrob: The complimentary evening wine and cheese, as well as the daily breakfast, can be delivered to your room. In-room binoculars are provided so you can spy on frolicking sea lions. The location: walking distance to everything in Sausalito, and with easy access to San Francisco, too.

💔 My heartbreak: The price. It’s steep for a room and out of reach for many travelers. But if a splurge is what you’re after, or you’re looking to celebrate a special occasion, this one is worth it.
